Yoga

Our HWC classes cover the fundamentals of alignment, deep breathing, vocabulary, strength and flexibility using standing and seated poses to achieve spinal health and wellness.

Senior Flexibility

Designed to give seniors of all body types and fitness levels a way to improve their daily mobility and functional living.

Chair Exercise
A workout for older adults who have a physical limitation, are recovering from injury or who have full mobility but simply wish to build strength and flexibility.
Youth Wellness

For kids and teens, these classes mix dance, mindfulness and recreation to advance wellness and to empower.

Meditation
This class uses meditation techniques to calm and steady the mind, improve memory, and enhance concentration and mental clarity.
Total Body Fitness

This 60-minute workout includes cardio intervals, strength training,
and light yoga.

Wellness Circles

This class meets to explore new ways to manage stress, diffuse anxiety and support each other to achieve greater peace of mind.

Nourishment

Bi-weekly classes for daily living to encourage the body’s natural healing.

Your Instructors

Vera Ruangtragool
Vera leads guided meditation classes for HWC. She is Founder and Executive Director of trulywell.org, and her accessible mindfulness meditation sessions and talks promote social and emotional wellbeing.
Dublin Salas
Dublin teaches Levels 1 and 2 yoga at HWC. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Dublin’s classes follow simple yet challenging sequencing, and explore sun salutations that focus on breathing, alignment, actions and movements with influences from Ashtanga Vinyasa, hatha and meditation.
Linette Lalita Dunbar
Lalita teaches therapeutic yoga at HWC. Classically trained in the Sivananda tradition of Hatha Yoga, Lalita skillfully guides students to experience the merging of body, mind, and spirit that invites the pleasure of simply living in peace with one’s self, one’s body, and one’s breath.
Chandana Robinson
Chandana teaches yoga and other low-impact classes at HWC. An instructor since 2000, she specializes in teaching those with reduced mobility or who are recovering from injuries. She encourages her students to deepen the breath, center the mind, and engage the abdominals.
Heather Payne
Heather is a certified Anusara yoga instructor. Her life-long spiritual journey is rooted in the ancient healing traditions of India and Ayurveda. Through her devotional Yoga practice and discipline, she facilitates self-cultivation and spiritual well-being in her students. She also is a certified Holistic Health & Integrative Nutrition coach.
Diana Diaz
Diana teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga for HWC. A founding member of IYINY’s Racial Diversity and Anti-Discrimination Committee, Diana also teaches yoga for one of our satellite classes in Washington Heights for middle-schoolers and high school students.
Patria Diaz
Patria co-facilitates HWC’s mindfulness programs for middle school and high school students in Washington Heights and across the five NYC boroughs. Her name means “motherland” and her calling is nurturing youth through guidance in mindful presence and awareness.
Daniel Givins

Daniel’s meditation classes explore the intersectional nature of identity, incorporating the myths and folklore legends that relate to people of color across the Africa diaspora. He also teaches yoga to encourage spiritual transformation.

Tina Redwood
Tina teaches the Senior Flexibility class for HWC. The class is designed to give seniors of all body types and fitness levels a way to improve their flexibility to stay lean, limber and pain-free. Her goal is to have participants experience an improvement in range of motion, mobility and enhanced feelings of well being.
